Kathleen Conway
Ok so all about me:
I live in Manasquan - I've gone from a winter rental to a summer rental and back to a winter rental and all the moving has been worth it. I love the town and I love having the beach in my backyard. It makes my day, everyday.
I got my undergraduate degree from The College of NJ in business management. I worked at Merrill Lynch for a few years but realized that I wanted to be doing more than talking to people about their money. So I decided to pursue my graduate degree through Georgian Court University. I'm almost done with my masters in community counseling and then I'll have to sit for a national exam to become a licensed professional counselor - my goal is to be working with adolescents. Right now I work at the Atlantic Club to pay my rent and I work at Ocean Township Department of Human Services for free (yay internships!).
I give my sister all the credit for my first involvement in the club. She had been doing triathlons here and there and convinced me to try it. It was a gradual process since the only bike I owned was hot pink and purple and from 1990, which was not going to be very helpful.
So my first year in the club I just went to all the swims. This past April I was able to get a real bike with a little help from Kathy at Brielle Cyclery and my tax refund! I did my first race over the summer and I loved it. It's just such a different experience from any other sport. Currently I'm working on liking running - I'm a swimmer at heart and I would just rather be in water.
As far
as hobbies go, I have very few right now. My life is consumed by classes and
work and getting more than 6 hours of sleep a night. I recently became
a vegetarian and I'm very into natural foods. I'm also a huge Phillie's fan and
I'm hoping for another World Series win!!
So I'm pretty new to this triathlon business but I'm so excited to be a part of
it and to have the chance to be more involved. I think it's a
great organization and everyone is so willing to help one another. It's just an
awesome atmosphere and it promotes such positive change that we're only going to
accomplish even more in the future!
