Saturday In The Park

8:00AM Island Beach State Park

May 3, 2008

AJ, Tony, Joe, JD, Tim, Dawn, Jen, and Skip brave cool temps and north winds to kick off the JSTC May Saturday rides.

First loop is 15 miles.  The second loop we break off into smaller beginner and intermediate groups to focus more on the discipline of pace line, safety and cycling technique.

This program received rave reviews last year, and is a great way to jump start your cycling for 2008 if you have not done so already.  OK to bring a friend!

Each Saturday in May we ride at Island Beach State Park.  Meet at the parking lot just outside the park entrance at 7:45am.

SPLASH SUCCESS!

The Monmouth County Boys and Girls Club in Asbury Park (above) was the place to be this past weekend if you were a triathlete looking to improve your swim stroke.

Coach Stephanie Crofton led a 2 hour clinic on Saturday which covered all the basics and provided the launch pad for many new JSTC members as the 2008 season gets under way.

Coach Stephanie Crofton (R) lays down the foundation of swim, while students and Assistant Coach Jaymee (L) listen up

Slavinski finishes 4th OA in 2008 debut

Jersey Shore Triathlon Club member Dave Slavinski achieved AG honors and 4th OA at the 2008 spring Bassman Triathlon.  A strong field of tri-state athletes came out for the 2008 triathlon season opener.

Many JSTC club members dusted off their wetsuits and made the drive down the GSP.  Special thanks to club member Joanne Jaeger, who came to the aid of a fallen rider hurt in a bike accident.

2008 JERSEY SHORE RELAY

26.2 miles

Seaside Heights
to
Asbury Park, NJ

BIG DAY FOR JSTC

Congratulations to The Jersey Shore Running Club for another terrific day at The Jersey Shore Relay.

Over 400 teams ran through Ocean and Monmouth County along the beautiful Jersey coast.  The finish line...one gigantic party at Convention Hall, Asbury Park.  Thanks Bob Both and the whole JSRC!!!

The Jersey Shore Triathlon Club
entered four teams:

JSTC I

1st Place Open Men's Division

Club members Ed Hale, Dave Slavinski, Joe Donahue, and Don Griffin (missing Big John...no doubt at the beer line) are all smiles after smoking a 2:25:47 marathon to First Place in Men's Open Division, and second place overall.

JSTC II

1st Place Latte Division

Sheila Carson (c), and her Thunder Road warriors cracked the 4 hour mark (3:54) while sipping lattes!  L-R:  AJ, Ellie, Captain Sheila, Steve, and leadoff runner with nerves of steel- Sherry

JSTC III

2nd Place Club Division

Club members Rob Pendergist, Tom Saito, and team captain Reagan Barry have game face still after posting a great 2:53 marathon.  Good for 2nd in the Club Division, and 16th OA.  High expectations from these boys for the rest of the year!  Great job guys.  Missing members of the team Matt Elo and Chad Safran are sending photos in through their publicity rep.

JSTC IV

1st Place Club Division

Second from left, team captain Ian King a/k/a livetosurf on the JSTC forum,  brought his "A"  game along with Carmine DiMartino,  Pat Lenaghan, and Alex King.  JSTC IV went on to claim 1st place in the Club Division and 9th OA with a 2:46 marathon.  Awesome!

Ironman Division

1st Place Bill Parke

Bill Parke ran a solo 3:37 to place FIRST in the Ironman Division...A place where he is very comfortable.  Congratulations Bill!  Nice "tune-up"!!!!!!

Most Outstanding Club Volunteers

Kathleen O'Brien
and
Jennifer Donohue

held down the JSTC command center for 6 hours straight!  They recruited new members, planned the next club party, sold club jerseys, and answered hundreds of questions under a great day in the sun.

JSRC's Bob Both (L), had everything under control.  Photo right:  Newest club member Cooper Griffin (L under shade) and Sunny Griffin (R), saw Don anchor JSTC I to the finish.
